DENTAL SURGERY

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implant procedures and technology have become much more common today and continue to increase in predictability and reliability. If you are missing a tooth, an implant is a very effective, long-term option to restore function or esthetics. Unlike dental bridges or partial dentures, an implant doesn’t rely on other teeth for its function.

To “place” an implant, a titanium post is surgically placed in the bone and a healing cap is placed on top. After 4-6 months of healing the implant is stable enough to have a crown placed on it. A simple (non-invasive) impression of the healing cap is taken and sent to a dental lab for manufacture. The permanent crown is received within 3-4 weeks and attached to the implant.

WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars in the very back of the mouth. If they are positioned correctly, fully grown in (erupted, above the gums), and remain clean and healthy, they may not need to be removed. However, wisdom teeth often do not have the necessary space to grow properly or are very difficult to reach and maintain good hygiene.

Dr. Dave Firmage has received advanced training in wisdom teeth removal, including surgical extraction of impacted wisdom teeth. His experience includes over 400 wisdom tooth extractions to date. He is also credentialled to provide moderate IV sedation as an added measure of comfort for patients, if desired.

PERIODONTAL (GUM) SURGERIES

Periodontal, also known as gum surgery may be helpful for a variety of functional and esthetic reasons, such as recession, deep gum pockets, bone defects, excessive gum tissue, etc.

Dr. Dave Firmage has received advanced training in gum surgeries. Various treatment and sedation options will be discussed if you need gum surgery.

BONE GRAFTING

If a tooth is extracted (removed), some amount of bone may be lost naturally during the healing process. Research shows that placing a bone graft in the extraction site can preserve the width and height of bone needed for future implant placement.

Dr. Dave Firmage has received advanced training in bone grafting. Various treatment and sedation options will be discussed if you need a bone graft.

SEDATION SERVICES

At Gray Oak Family Dental, your comfort is our top priority. We are pleased to offer a variety of sedation options to help you feel calm and relaxed while receiving necessary treatment.

Our sedation options include:

  • Minimal Sedation – nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) administered during the procedure through a small mask placed on your nose.
  • Oral Sedation – taking a sedative medication before the procedure.
  • Moderate IV Sedation – sedative medication administered through a vein during the procedure. (Dr. Dave Firmage has received advanced training and is credentialed to administer moderate IV sedation.)

Dr. Dave Firmage is pleased to schedule a free consultation appointment to discuss these options with you prior to treatment.
